Zig Ziglar, a famous motivational speaker was once quoted as saying “The first step in solving a problem is to recognize that it does exist.”
Albert Einstein was also quoted as saying “We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.”
This is the mindset we must take on as the first step to salvation. If we don’t recognize the fact we have a problem, there is no point in going any further as you can’t fix something you don’t believe exists.
The first step of The Romans Road is realizing everyone, yes EVERYONE sins. It’s in our nature as humans. Sin has existed with every single person since Adam and Eve.
Some people may think “oh I’m a good guy” or “I’ve never laid a hand on anyone”. Then there’s “I’ve done so much to help others I’m surely not a sinner”. I think this is where some of the issues some folks have with church comes in. Sometimes Christians, in their zealousness to do God’s will, spend too much time telling people what they are doing wrong. What we have to remember is we all started out in the exact same boat.
To properly understand this, we need to understand exactly what sin is. Sin is ANYTHING displeasing to God and against His will for our life.
The bible tells us God is the very definition of love. As a matter of fact, it further tells us God loves us with what’s call an agape love. This is a whole other level of love that our human minds are simply not able to grasp. Think about the person you love more than any other. God loves us even more than that.
John Chapter 3 verse 16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We’ll learn more about this as we travel further down Roman’s Road.
